Trip to the monastery


The monastery was built in the fourth century near to the cave, where for over eighty years St. Anthony the Great lived.

Program:

This tour starts in the early morning, around 3:00 (due to high temperatures prevailing in the mountains).

The trip begins with the crossing of 1,200 stairs leading to the grotto, in which Saint Anthony lived for 84 years. The entrance takes about 1 hour.

Then, take a bus to the monastery of Saint Anthony, where the guide - Coptic monk will take you around the oldest and longest active monastery in the world.

Time for shopping. A great opportunity to buy wine produced by monks, herbs, honey, paintings, etc.

Transfer to the monastery of St. Paul which still functions (80 km). Visiting the monastery with a guide - Coptic monk. Monastery of St. Paul is pressed between the mountains, which makes a really impressive view. Today, more than 250 monks live in it. They are famous for their hospitality.
